Small Wind Generation Fundamentals

This “One Week” course is designed to meet the recently released Small Wind Task Analysis findings and recommendations. This course covers basic small wind technology, safety issues inherent in working with wind turbines and heights, the various wind turbine components for horizontal and vertical turbines, how to perform a site analysis for placement of towers, tower types and height requirements for turbine “sweep”, step by step procedures for erecting towers, sizing properly for the demand of user, and system wiring into “Grid-Tie” or “Stand Alone” battery systems including “hybrid variations”.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a certificate of training from MiraCosta College. Successful completion of this course DOES NOT qualify or certify the student to install small wind energy systems, nor does it replace any local or state licensing or other requirements. Students are encouraged to obtain additional classroom and hands-on training through qualified apprenticeship programs, and or through entry-level trainee positions with a small wind industry company.
