ELECTRIC VEHICLE TECHNICIAN
This 40 Hour entry level Electric Vehicle Technician course is designed to teach students about electric vehicle operations, components, construction, and safety. Consider that with the continuing and forecasted increases in the price of gasoline, the growth of EV is a given. This is because an electric vehicle can save you money. Understanding EV technology may position you for a job in a growth industry, or even help you convert your gas vehicle to an Electric Vehicle.
Battery technology continues to improve. As battery technology improves from 150 up to 300 miles per charge, and as the charging station infrastructure expands all over California and across the nation, we are beginning to see new job opportunities open in this evolving Industry relating to EV infrastructure charging stations, EV maintenance and trouble shooting technicians, EV sales support and EV battery and component repair technicians.
This course starts with an introduction to electric vehicles and then covers electric vehicle safety fundamentals, AC and DC electric motors, motor controllers, charge controllers, batteries, system integration, power calculations and transmission ratios, regeneration, DC to DC converters, vehicle wiring, system controls, troubleshooting and vehicle maintenance. This course includes an extensive hands-on lab using electric vehicle components to construct a working drive-train. Students will work with electric motors, batteries, motor controllers, wiring, and test equipment to safely assemble a working electric vehicle.
This course curriculum covers the required knowledge to pass the ETA Electric Vehicle Drive Train Specialist certification exam. This ETA certification is recognized by electric vehicle manufacturers worldwide. It is the first of three certifications for electric vehicle technicians provided by the ETA.
